A River of Light for Tiananmen

A Floating Lantern Ceremony on the River Cam at the 20th Anniversary of the June 4th Tiananmen Incident

June 4th (Thu), 8pm
Gather by Fort St. George Pub, Midsummer Common
(Map: http://tinyurl.com/stgeorgepub )

20 years ago, peaceful protests for freedom and democracy were brutally put down by tanks and machine guns.

20 years later, justice is still elusive. Mothers are forbidden to mourn their lost children. Exiles are refused the right to go home. Many still languish in jails. Discussion of "The Incident" is strictly censored.

The least we could do, is to remember. Both the death, and the living.

Let’s lit up River Cam in a call for justice and truth. Together we will show the world that yes, we care, and truth would not be buried forever.

The event itself is free, and help will be on hand to help you make your own lantern. We also provide an online ‘lantern adoption program’ (http://www.srcf.ucam.org/salon/6420_eng/Adopt%20a%20lantern.html); even if you cannot join us on the day, you can adopt your own lantern beforehand and still show your support! All proceeds from the event will go towards the Tiananmen Mothers.

Co-organised by CU Amnesty International and Chinese Salon

Carrying out 2 separate online conversations at the same time which were on the surface, about completely separate topic, but in essence all tangled up and interrelated in a very very messy way, is giving me a bloody big headache.

Now, what should I choose? >.<

原來還是,害怕寂寞。

Friday, May 01, 2009

Tonyee's schedule these day:

7.30    Alarm set off. Snooze /Slam.
8.30    Finally crawl out of bed. Panic. Saw half cup of cold coffee on table. Drink it. Taste nice.
8.45    Mind clear a bit. Starts writing 64 diary.
10.00  Force herself to wrap up the diary since she doesn't want supervisor in lab to discover that she come in late.
10.10  Brush teeth. Breakfast.
10.20  Set off for lab
11.00  Mandatory lab social tea break. Pretend to listen to conversation and try to nod in the right place.
11.20  Back to the computer. Try to work. Usually fail. Create some easy diagrams to try to fool supervisor. Don't think he is fooled.
13.00  Lunch time. Pretend to go back to college for lunch but actually go to Amnesty meeting/ poster or flyer the town / get 64 books from UL/ meet technician / print or laminate stuff at CUSU / set up bank account / etc etc. End up missing lunch.
14.45  Back to lab outrageously late. Want to snack on some cereal bar only to discover that she rans out a while ago.
15.30  If office is empty, nap openly. If not, nap discreetly.
16.30  Check email for the hundredth time in an hour. Want to facebook too, but the lab computer is horribly old and facebook doesn't work properly on it
18.00  Finally supervisor leave. Wait 10 mins, than leave herself.
18.15  Back home and mess around with facebook quiz
18.30  Start working on 6420 site. Get annoyed by google checkout. Struggle with email form.
19.15  If there's a talk, set off. If not, continue the stuggle.
21.00  Stand on street and chat to people for ages after talk. Endeavour to be the last to leave the vicinity.
00.00  Make no progress with form or guestbook. Frustrated. Hungry. Go and cook. Have a one month overdue clementine. Put one sausage bought in 2007 into rice cooker to test its edibilty. Decide that it is edible.
01.00  Got a half way working webiste. Tell herself to stop and start working on exhibition posters. Make coffee.
02.00  Finally wrapped up the website. Make another cup of coffee. Make desert (if there is any). Open the 64 research materials other sent her. Judged them to be unusable. Do the research herself.
03.00  After much agonizing, one page of poster out....start on another. Forget her half-drank coffee.
06.00  Decide that she really should go to bed. But the sun is too bright. Crawl under the blanket. After 1.5 hours, cycle repeats.

Am surprised that I ain't dead yet...

50 dead men walking (It's on at the Arts Picture House - go watch it!)

Where should one stand, in the midst of a dirty war? Where does conscience stand, in between the cruelty of today and the dream of tomorrow?

End credits - We Will Have Won

And then my son
He walked away
I bowed my head
And tears flowed shame

Son you come to know
Your sad smile is my blame
As the hero put down the gun
In the name of daughters and our sons
And now I pray
Our war is done

My son cried and said to me
Why do young men kill what they love
The coward with a kiss
The brave man with his sword
Blood flow dripping from the turf
You say it's for yer daughters and your sons
Father it's time your war is done
We will be free
We will have won

Who in our hearts do we pray for
Who do we hold so very near
The cry from a lover
The child silent tear
They might have God's will on each side
But nothing come of nothing
And war was my bride
I heard of heroes
Dream I'll be the same
And even the score
Was part of the game

The dove flies free
And we have won
